experience with an after market cushion similar to the Catalina ones?

What is the preferred way to attach the cockpit cushions, snaps, velcro, other? Where do you place the attach points? I've seen several ways and am
wondering if one way is better than another.

If you want to know what works, look to the charter industry. They need longevity, price and ease of maintanence. We had the original catalina set and we had
to take them in when we left the boat. The charter boats all use ensolite covered in Texilene. You can leave them out as they don't absorb water. They
are rugged and do not rip or tear and they last for years. The only drawback is they're a little harder on the bottom than foam but well worth it.

I ordered replacement cockpit cushions from NewJSI at Chicago Strictly Sail last February. Cushions are covered with a mesh. They don't have the hot
sticky feeling that I experience from the Bottom Siders. They have two differnt mesh patterns, one being finer than the other. The cushions are water proof
so you can leave in the cockpit. The finer mesh resulted in a price of about $1000. The other mesh would have been about $200 less, as I recall. You can get

I had custom cushions made for the cockpit. A high quality white vinyl cover was used over 4" closed cell foam. Since the foam is so hard, I thought
4" would soften the cushions up a bit. If I had to do it over, I would have use the 3" closed cell foam. It is definitely a little stiffer than
conventional cusions, but has lasted for 7 years with nary a blemish. Also, I never have to worry about the cushions absorbing any water. Total cost 7 years
ago was $625.

Steve-

We replaced ours in 2004 with C Cushions from Rockport, TX. It was $824 for a full set.

I have to say that I have not been too thrilled with these cushions. They have gotten nicked up pretty easily. That said, they are solid foam so they do not
absorb any water.

Hope that helps
