I am considering an autoprop [model h5470L] for my 2001 with the 56 HP Yanmar. My friend with a 2001 Model 380 had 2 installation problems when he added the autoprop: blade in reverse hit strut [an arc in strut was ground out for clearance]: prop went so far on the drive shaft that a 1" shaft spacer was required. Any one with a 42 have these or any other problems.

WindCatcher (#618, 1998 ) has had an AUTOPROP H5 since 1999. Installation was straight forward, requiring a 1" plate at the shaft coupling. (Now there's room for SPURS between hub and strut!) A vast improvement over the fixed wheel - 85% less drag and one powerful reverse. The strongest arguement for Autoprop is that it auto-pitches. When you run at low RPMs while motor-sailing, it adjusts pitch to boat speed to take bigger bites out of the water...

Consider the Maxi Prop from PYI. We installed their 18" prop two years ago and couldn't be happier. I had to cut about 1" off the end of the prop shaft to get a proper fit, but onther than that, the prop has been great.

rlrobi,

I have an Autoprop H6 installed on my C-42 (1997). A drive saver spacer (1") was installed between the transmission drive flange and the propeller shaft flange to accommodate the clearance required for the Autoprop blades when in forward. The prop was installed in 1999 and I have experienced no problems at all. You will love this prop.
Rodney Kidd, C-42 #567 Sashay, 2 Cabin Fin, Marina Village, Alameda, CA
