We just bought our boat last week, a 1992 2-cabin Pullman (#328), so I'm low on the learning curve.

Before leaving the dock at the brokerage for the 60nm trip to our home, I decided to fill the water tanks. I placed a hose in one of the filler openings and turned on the water. Water began backing up in the filler, so I turned down the pressure and everything seemed to be OK. After 10 mins. or so, I noticed that the bilge pump was beginning to cycle on and off....

I had a vent hose with a cut in it that was attached to the forward water tank. When ever I over filled that tank water would leak out behind the forward head and puddle there before making its way to the bilge. You might want to check the hoses and attachments, sometimes they wiggle loose or have cuts in them.

Congratulations on the new boat. You will love it.
We have 1992, hull 314-2 cabin, and the two sole tanks vent into the anchor locker. The tank under the pullman vents on the port side hull about even with the anchor locker. As for the water in the bilge, I would suggest also checking under the dust bin at the bottom of the companion way. The 3 valves and strainer for the water system are on the forward side just under the dust bin. It's possible when commissioning the...

Hi
It seems that the watertanks bulge when filled, which somehow stretches the inspection plate and causes it to leak badly. I used liquid gasket material in addition to the gasket that was on there to seal the tank(s). The problem has not reoccured. I am sure that you have checked the vent hoses by now to make sure that they are attached properly. One of my vent hoses had somehow loosend through the shipping procees. I also had a broken stanchion where the exit for the...

Like Tino's boat, my forward tank inspection port leaked when the tank was full. I made a gasket out of some gasket material purchased at an autoparts store. Leaking inspection port cured. As in Tino's boat, our 1997 2 cabin pullman forward and port water tanks are vented in the anchor locker and the starboard subsole tank is vented via a stanchion.
Rodney Kidd, C-42 #567 Sashay, 2 Cabin Fin, Marina Village, Alameda, CA

On the C42 the water tanks do not have an overflow, only air vents. Usually when filling the tanks the water overflows the filler port when they are full. On our boat, the forward tank inspection port does not seal completely and hence leaks into the bilge when over filled. The other tanks do not leak.

Regarding the placement of the air vents, as Larry indicated, the forward and port mid-sole tanks are vented in the anchor locker. However, our starboard...

First,

Welcome aboard! I'm sure you'll enjoy your 42.

On Melelana (1990, #175) the forward tank and 2 salon tanks vent to fittings in the anchor locker, port side. The port aft tank vents to the transom.

I believe you have P/S sole tanks rather than the salon settee tanks 1989 and 1990 boats have. They still should be vented outside the hull of the boat.
