            The sheave is from Garhauer (909.985.9993). I don't know the part # but you can simply ask for a masthead sheave for the 42 and they will know what to send you.<br>
            As far as the installation is concerned...it's a fairly difficult job with the mast in but simple with the mast out. The sheave itself is self contained and you take out the old and put in the new. If you take your mast out there in Michigan for the season then it's easy. It's... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Gary Willis mentioned that he has installed a Garhauer ball bearing masthead sheave.  It sounded like this made a tremendous difference in ease in raising the main.  Is this an easy replacement and do you know the part number of the sheave.  Any help would be appreciated.<br>

            Here is the picture you asked for. The upper tube extends upward and is secured in position for use by the pin you see in the photo. There are a series of holes in the upper tube for height adjustments.<br>

            The pole is seriously back-plated and the whole thing is rated for 300+ lbs, so it can hold the entire dinghy and motor out of the water in Mexico and can double as a man-overboard rescue lift.<br>

			<description><![CDATA[ I have a MaxProp and love it.  If I recall correctly, it is an 18 inch 3 blade and the pitch was set at 20 degrees.  We go 7.8 knots at 3200 and a clean hull.  <br>

            I also installed my new Max-Prop using the instructions to set at the same pitch as the original fixed prop. I was unhappy with performance so I had the boat hauled and the prop re-pitched. I believe I only went 1 pitch the other direction but it's been three years so I don't remember if I added or subtracted. Having to haul again was still cheaper than buying the adjustable model and less parts to break. Once you get it right it will be right forever. I love my... ]]></description>

            The knotmeter is under the pullman berth, near the mast.  On my 42, you unscrew the cap and pull out the knotmeter.  There is a flap that closes off the hole and only allows a trickle of water in.  I then brush off the paddles with a wire brush and put the knotmeter in again.  Make sure it lines up right so it reads accurately.  No problem.<br>

			<description><![CDATA[ I have the Martec Autostream three blade feathering prop on #836 and find that I hit 7.5 at or around 31-3200 RPM.  I have hit 8 in calm flat water in the upper end of RPMs but was just not comfortable running at that higher RPM. <br>

            My biggest problem is that the speedo rarely works and I am constantly using the speed over ground as the reference point.  Suspect that I need to clean the speedo paddle wheels but have yet to figure out how to accomplish the task.... ]]></description>

I simply adjusted the pitch so that it would spin at about 3600 rpm under load and I get around 7.8 to 8.0 kts. Too many things can affect the boats speed over ground such as condition of bottom, current, tightness of cutlass beaing, packing gland, sea state etc. I wouldn't be too unhappy with 7.5 at full load but what speed are you getting at typical cruising speed such as 2900 to 3000 rpm?<br>

			<description><![CDATA[ Not many understand that Morro Bay is not such a friendly harbor.  The entry channel is narrow and gets even narrower with weather and the shallows are scary.  I would consider home port there if they dredge with regularity and someone had the foresight to build a real marina or moorings that did not turn into mud flats at low tide.  Or how about a marina or good mooring project for the Avila Beach area or Pismo.<br>
