For a C-42, the recommended size (30"x42") lies between the available 24x36 and 36tX42 sizes. The tiebreaker is that the 24x36 has embroidered stars and fouled anchor while the 36x48 has sewn-on stars and fouled anchor. Embroidered, IMHO, wins.

Regarding the pole, I had Garhauer make a stainless pole. Since there is no teak in the cockpit (MarkII), I opted with a 1" stainless flag pole, matches the stern pulpit. I expect they could make a 7/8" pole if asked. I am now electing to position a 7/8 West Marine stern rail mount on top of the horizontal tube on our davits.... and fly the ensign off of that. My hubby has been uncomfortable not having a flag on this boat of ours. Can you share with me the size of your yacht ensign ? Do you fly a 2' x 3' or do you go larger on your C42 ?

Do you use the Catalina holder or a special mount ?
