A rating change would be nice. Here in So Cal we have a rating of 102 and different allowances for such items as smaller headsails, 3 bladed fixed props and so on. I find that the boat sails to the 102 rating as long as there is 7kts of breeze anything under that and the boat just doesn't respond. I too hate watching J-29's and the such pass me in light air, but when the breeze picks up I love picking them off the course and still being able to make celebratory margaritas with the blender...

GOod luck. "Should get" is the operative term with PHRF Chesapeake. I looked in to challenging my rating as we have a base rating of 96 in the Chesapeake for wing or fin, Mk I or Mk II. No WK credit, no reduction for a 140 vs a 155 max headsail. We do get a RF white sail credit of 6 sec/mile for a rating of 102. Did some research on ratings in other areas with predominately light air and found C-42s with ratings up to 132. Catalina 400s...

Empty boat (no sails, sheets, anchors, rodes, tools, utensils, clothes, or anything else loose except the cushions on the berths below). Certified scales showed 24,240 lbs. The only significant item added to the boat is the air conditioner which is 78 lbs. There was 8 gal of fuel in the tank, all other tanks were empty.
Garry, When we lifted Wild Child in the fall the operator said she weighed 24,000 pounds.
If your boot stripe is under the waterline that is a problem. I think I misread something. I will let you now what my 42 weighs after being out of the water for two months and relaunched in mid feb. The coastguard uses net tonnage from hull design alone, nada on anything in or on the boat. Gross tonnage is with eq other than personal eq. This is my understanding and as my wife frequently tells me ,I am wrong, soooooo. lets compare weights at the end of feb. I love these posts!!!!!

Gary,

I would be very suspicious of the measurement device on the Travel Lift. Unless it is used for some financial billing purpose, and unless it is routinely calibrated, it is likely to be far from accurate. The ones I have seen appear to be some sort of pressure gauge, but I am not sure how they are hooked up. If they simply attempt to measure the pull on the slings then the apparent weight will depend on the geometry of the loading and the height that the...

Weight-based systems
Displacement Tonnage is the actual weight of the vessel and its contents. It is often used to rate naval vessels, since their weight is fairly constant and they are not subject to the kinds of port fees that are calculated on Register Tonnage. It is often expressed in long tons or in metric tons, and is calculated simply by multiplying the volume of the hull below the waterline (ie. the volume of water it is displacing) by the density of the water.
