The former owner of our boat (#328, a pullman 2-cabin) did not repair the Dutchman monofilament lines between the topping lift and the boom when they broke. Then, he replaced his "Dutchman" mainsail cover with a "standard" cover, with no openings for the Dutchman lines to pass through. We are repairing the Dutchman and thought it would be an easy matter to get some local canvas shop to add a couple of zippers to the existing mainsail cover to accommodate the lines. But,...

There was recent discussion regarding halyards banging inside of the mast and the concensus was due to the bend in the mast. However, I have a new twist. Using the scientific method of placing my ear to the mast, the sound appears to be coming from much lower; near where the boom attaches to the mast. I thought all the wires were routed through a pipe or channel. Any thoughts?

Hull #855 came with a 155% Catalina furling headsail. I'm in the process of readying for a Bahamas trip Fall of 2006 and have heard the winds can blow steadly 20 Knots +. When beating in these force winds on the Chesapeake I reef the jib to ease the heel on the boat. The shape of the semi-furled jib is wrinkled and the airfoil shape is pretty much in question. Has anyone had the pads sown in the luff that are supposed to give the furled sail a better foil shape? In short, does it work?...
