I've just been informed of the following. It bugs me to see us lose a C42, but, at least, it was not an issue with the boat. Lets all wish John & his crew better luck in any future passages.

"It is regret that we have to inform you that our catalina 42, Coolabah hit a submerged object 300 miles out of Suva, Fiji and sunk. All four crew on board were rescued by a nearby vessel and we are all safe now in savu Savu, Fiji.

Land-locked in Phoenix

I bought my 42 while working contract on the East Coast. In between projects, I sailed her from Annapolis to Florida, over to the Abacos twice, and finally to USVI.

The bad news is I took a full-time job here in AZ. I've been back to the boat twice, but don't have much time left this year; maybe able to make it there in January and then move her next summer.

Let me know if any West-Coast owners want to work an arrangement.

August in Desolation Sound, BC

We are headed to Desolation Sound in August. Departing Anacortes, WA on 8/10. A week traveling north (via the Gulf Islands), a week there, and a week traveling south. Return to Anacortes approx 9/1.

Any Captains planning to be in the area, please give me a hail via email, posting, or VHF 16. We will have internet access sporadically during the trip.

St Martin to Panama - soon on our way through the Canal

Having spent nearly six weeks in St Martin replacing running and standing rigging ( you know we had a shroud toggle break when we were in the BVI) we set sail for the canal. We made it to Panama from St Martin in 11 days. Very rough passage. TO all that attended
WOW! what a jam packed weekend! We and our guests aboard On Porpoise had a wonderful time.
All the 42 onwers were wonderful and were happy to answer all our qeustions.
Well it does help that we came away with a wonderful new folding bike!
Does anyone that was there know where they may have posted pictures of the weekend?

A 42 is racing in the Transpac

A Catalina 42 is now racing across the pacific to Hawaii and are now 2nd in class and 2nd in fleet. The boat is named Far Niente out of Dana Pt. Ca. and owned by Patrick Hearne. They had a first day run of 110 miles so they now have 2,115 miles to go. Believe it or not but the one boat that is correcting out on them is a Catalina 38 with a first days run of 108 miles so the Catalina family should be pretty happy right now.

Catalina Two Harbors Gathering

The Admiral and myself are really looking forward to the weekend after the 4th of july for the CAtalina Yachts gathering. This will be our first trip to Catalina on our Catalina 42 since we brought her down from Alameda last year.
I would like to hear from those that have attended in the past. Do alot of boats show up? By the event schedule it looks like a busy weekend

Has anyone engineered a "sunflower" raft-up?

I volunteered to coordinate the assembling of a raft-up of roughly 30 boats (hopefully, both sail & powerboats) next Saturday, during the summer solstice weekend inside Marina del Rey, CA. I pretty much have the circumference & diameter figured out, but need help determining the angel of boats as they raft-up. I've read some stories on the web & like one idea of tying a nylon line between the stearns of the 1st 2 bow anchored boats. If I get the 30 random size boats...

Crossing the Pacific in a Catalina 42

Here's an interesting article that appeared in an Australian boating magazine last November about a couple who purchased a used 42 and then sailed her to Mexico and then across the Pacific to Australia. It tells of their preparations and experience crossing the Pacific and how the boat handled the trip. They are still sailing the boat down there in Oz and enjoying the boat.

I've been lurking here for some time. My husband Dave & I are planning to sell the hacienda here in So. Oregon and move aboard a Cat 42 within two years. Our desired cruising grounds are Puget Sound. Our desired model 42 is a 3 cabin, MkI. So why the heck am I posting this in the cruising forum? I am joining the crew of G-Rated a 1997 Catalina 42 for the fun race to Puerto Vallarta leaving January 31 2009 from Marina del Rey. At least two other Catalina 42's will be joining the race. Walker's Cay

Walker's Cay Marina and Resort is closed, but the Customs office at the airfield has continued in operation. The folks that live or visit on Grand Cay use the once-a-day flight between Freeport and Walker's. I don't know if I'll risk going into the Marina to tie-up. I'll probably dinghy in and clear customs, then on to Grand Cay or Double-Breasted.
